She had been ill for 2 weeks. She was member of the Brownstown Methodist Church. She was retired from Ashland Oil. Helen's greatest love was her family and her home.
Helen was born on May 14, 1929 in Lawrence County, IN to the late Eithel Sherrill & Lorena Keithley Sherrill Gilstrap. On November 4, 1944 in Salina, KS she married Jesse Floyd Sovern and he preceded in her death on April 4, 1999. Survivors include, a son, Michael Lee Sovern of Smithville, TN and a daughter, Tamara Jean Freeman of Brownstown; grandchildren, Brad Sovern, Elizabeth A. Sevakis, Jason Sovern, Christa Sovern, Michael Lee Sovern II, Angel Sovern, Hannah Sovern, Eric D. Freeman & Erin R. Buffington. Other survivors are a brother, Edward Gilstrap of Heltonville, O'Weeta Flinn of Bloomington, Bonnie Sue Clifton of Needmore, Betty Jo Brown of Bedford, Nellie Allen of Okeechobee, FL, & Juanita Thomas of Bedford.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Donald K. Sovern, 2 sisters in infancy, sisters, Virginia Gilstrap & Jean Horner, and a brother Raymond Junior Gilstrap.
Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, February 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Kevin Stiles officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday, February 16th from 3-7 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until service time. Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery in Lawrence County.
