Funeral services were conducted Saturday from St. Luke's Episcopal church at Springbrook for Rev. Henry Edward Chase, 76, who died at his home recently after a long illness.
Bishop Frank E. Wilson of Eau Claire diocese, Rev. Arthur Heyes of Rice Lake and Rev. John Tredrea of Spooner officiated and interment was in St. Luke's cemetery.

Reverend Chase was born in Stark county, Illinois and graduated from Kenyon college at Gambriar, O., in 1886. He attended Nashotah theological seminary at Nashotah, Wis., remaining there as an instructor after his ordination. In 1900 he went to Hinsdale, Ill., as rector of Grace Episcopal church.

In 1907 he was appointed arch deacon of the La Crosse convocation in charge of all missions. The family then moved to Shell Lake, remaining there until 1910 when they moved to Springbrook.

Ill health forced him to give up missionary work in 1914. During his years as arch deacon he was instrumental in building of three churches, one at Clear Lake, another at Hayward and one at Springbrook. He donated the land for the Springbrook church and also for the cemetery. He received the degree of honorary doctor of divinity from Nashotah seminary.

Survivors are his wife, Hannah; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Grissell, Springbrook and Jane K. Chase, of Portland; a brother, Herbert Chase, Eldorado, Kan., and a sister, Anna Chamberlain, Peoria, Ill.
