In 1907 he was appointed arch deacon of the La Crosse convocation in charge of all missions. The family then moved to Shell Lake, remaining there until 1910 when they moved to Springbrook.

He donated the land for the Springbrook church and also for the cemetery. He received the degree of honorary doctor of divinity from Nashotah seminary.
Survivors are his wife, Hannah; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Grissell, Springbrook and Jane K. Chase, of Portland; a brother, Herbert Chase, Eldorado, Kan., and a sister, Anna Chamberlain, Peoria, Ill.
