Rev. Bryars organized several churches throughout southern Alabama and western Florida. His primary church was the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church which has been continuously serving the communty since 1856. Crary Cemetery, also known as the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, is adjacent to the Church.

He was also a farmer, served as the Escambia County Surveyor, and was a member of the Escambia County School Board.
