Thelma Batson Barfield, 87, Calypso resident, passed away Tuesday night, February 12, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She had been employed with Boling Chair Company, was a member of Calypso Baptist Church, enjoyed working in her yard, loved to dance and was always eager to go out to eat with her family and friends.
Mrs. Barfield was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood Glenn Barfield; a son, Timmy Barfield; her parents, Willie Sanford Batson and Annie Belle Turner Batson; and a sister, Abby Lambert Jackson.
She is survived by a daughter, Belinda Gregory and husband, Don, of Calypso; a son, Glenn Barfield and wife, Barbara, of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Nicholas Barfield and Katie Sass, Tiffany and Jonathan Griffin, Donald and Leslie Gregory, Crystal and Jody Quinn, and Amber Issa; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Janie Stevens of Mount Olive.
A service of worship to celebrate her Christian life will be Thursday, February 14, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Smith officiating, followed by a time of visitation. Burial will be in the Calypso Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, February 15.
