She was a very active member of 1st Baptist Church and a graduate of Morgantown High School. She retired after many years of service from West Virginia University and enjoyed spending time with the women of the #411 Elks Club. In her free time, Betty was an active person who enjoyed walking and exercising. She was an avid golfer and Pines Country Club member. She was also a huge Mountaineer fan, having held season tickets for many years.
Mrs. O’Neil is survived by her son, Jeffery B. O’Neil (Sandra) FL; grandsons, Jeffery L. O’Neil (Beth) of Morgantown and Robert S. O’Neil (Jen) SC; great-grandchildren, Marline and Henrik Clear of Erbach, Germany.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Robert Edward “Buck” O’Neil; a daughter, Kathy Lynn Gomez O’Neil, FL; grandson, Michael Clear, New Orleans, LA; and siblings, Francis and Donald Sweitzer.
In accordance with Betty’s wishes, she will be cremated. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. Morgantown, on Thursday, October 19th from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
