Frederick J. Berger, longtime banker with Lorain County Savings and Trust Co., and Amherst community leader, has announced his retirement. Berger, who is a bank vice president, has been manager of the Amherst branch since 1954. He joined the bank in 1932 as a teller and was named an assistant manager in 1938, a post he held until being named manager at Amherst. He holds degrees from the Oberlin School of Commerce and the University of Wisconsin School of Banking.
Berger Is Past president and a member of the board of trustees of the Amherst Hospital Association. He is also a member and past president of the Amherst Rotary Club and is treasurer of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce. He also served many years as treasurer of the Lorain County Tuberculosis and Health Association.
He was an organizer of the Amherst Assembly Order of Rainbow for Girls and Demolay for Boys and is a charter member of both boards. He is a past master and member of the Stonington Lodge 503 F&AM, a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland and a member of Stone City Chapter for Eastern Star. He is also a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ. Berger and his wife, Elle, plan to remain in Amherst. They have a daughter and three grandchildren.
