Former Leavenworth Railroad Man Dies in Kansas City
John Swift, for more than thirty years a resident of Leavenworth and most of the time an employee of the Rock Island railway here, died yesterday morning at his home in Kansas City, Kan., at the age of 85 years. Extreme old age was the cause of death.
The deceased was a native of Shepley, England, but came to America at the age of 17 and came to Leavenworth in the early days. He was well known here and numbered many friends.
The remains will arrive in this city this morning over the Missouri Pacific railway and the funeral will be held from the Union Station with interment in Mount Muncie Cemetery.
The deceased leaves a wife and two sons, the latter residents of Leavenworth.

TWO FUNERALS FROM SAME PASSENGER TRAIN
The Missouri Pacific passenger train from the south arriving here yesterday morning at 10:42 o'clock brought two bodies here for interment, the first time the thing has happened in the memory of local undertakers. The bodies were those of John Swift and Mrs. Elizabeth Mackemer, both former residents of this city, who died almost simultaneously the preceding day in two parts of Kansas City.
Both bodies were taken into hearses from the train and conveyed to Mount Muncie Cemetery and both funerals were conducted by the same undertaker, J. W. Sexton.
John Swift was a former employee of the Rock Island railway here, having been in the service of that road for over thirty years.
Mrs. Mackemer was also an old resident of Leavenworth, having resided here for twenty years prior to her removal to Kansas City. She died in Kansas City, Mo., and Mr. Swift in Kansas City, Kan.
