She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. A granddaughter, Donna M. Toman, preceded her in 1967. Her loving husband of 46 years, Ernest B. Ward passed away 1990. Her only child, Virginia M. Toman (Jenny) also preceded her in death in 2014.
She is survived by one sister, Honnie Woodby of North Carolina; son-in-law, Melvin L. Toman of Fishersville VA; granddaughter, Michelle Hudson of Waynesboro, VA; and grandson, Melvin B. Toman and wife Tracy of Gerrardstown, WV. She also leaves behind a special great-grandson, Travis D. Hudson, whom she helped raise and lovingly referred to as “our boy”. She also leaves behind a legacy of nine other great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Nannie was known during her last years for her adult coloring. In previous years her gardening and cooking skills as well as her sewing made her a favorite to many. She was best known for her outpouring of love and kindness to others as well as her willingness to help anyone in need.
The family wishes to thank Nannie’s second family at the Daily Living Center in Waynesboro, VA for the many wonderful hours of love and enjoyment they gave her for the last several years. A special thanks to Intrepid Hospice for their assistance, kindness and love the past two months of Nannie’s life.
The family will receive visitors Monday, February 11, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, VA. Nannie’s service will be Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home with the Reverend Cosette Conaway officiating. Burial will follow the service at Augusta Memorial Park in Fishersville, VA.
Pallbearers will be David Berry, Arthur Custer, Robert M. Custer, Jr. (Bucky), Frank Guertler, Grover Peery and Melvin B. Toman.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Daily Living Center, 990 East Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro ,VA 22980.
