Charlotte McConnell Riha went to to be with her our Lord and Savior on February 7, 2019.
Charlotte was a beloved wife and mother who lived in Austin, Texas for a great part of her 86 years. She was born in Palo Pinto county Texas on Feb. 2, 1933 to Dolly M. and J.C. McConnell during the Great Depression.
She was the youngest daughter of 6 children. Transferring back and forth over her childhood from Fort Worth to Austin as her father served in the Texas Legislature. Charlotte attended Paschal High in Fort Worth and Southwest Texas State Teacher's college in San Marcos now known as Texas State. Charlotte was also in the first class to attend historic Pease elementary in Austin. She had knowledge that she would share about any landmark in Austin as well as many many others around Texas. Her love for the State Parks of Texas was one of her greatest passions. She was a member of the DAR and PEO of Texas.
In 1952 Charlotte married Clifford E. Harbison in Odessa Texas where they lived and raised a family for 30 years until his death in 1980. *Charlotte served in many philanthropic organizations in Odessa and later in Austin, Texas up right until her death.
After moving back to Austin in 1981 Charlotte met and married Col. Amos F. Riha a neighbor and family friend. They were married from 1987-2005 until his death.
Charlotte was a devoted mother to Robert L. Harbison of Georgetown, Douglas L. Harbison of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Drew A. Harbison of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Elizabeth H. Rall of Austin, TX.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren; Natalie Harbison- Ates, Paul Harbison, Brooks Harbison, Tara Harbison, Christina Harbison, Grey Harbison, Beau Harbison, Barrett Harbison, Bradie Harbison, Charlie Rall, Amelia Harbison-Crook and great grandchildren; Jacqueline Ates, Collins Harbison, Kash Crook, Dawson Crook and Christian Crook. Also survived by her sisters Eloyce McConnell Baker and Carolyn McConnell Remesat. Reuniting in Heaven with her departed sisters Elayne McConnell Tastch, Laura McConnell Holcomb and younger brother Bryan McConnell. Charlotte also loved her nieces and nephews greatly as well as her daughter in laws and special friends.
Lovely things remembered about Charlotte was her avid birdwatching hobby, painting talents, love of the outdoors, amazing historical knowledge and love for Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services will be at Weed Corley Fish on North Lamar on Friday February15th at 11:00 a.m. and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on the 14th.
