Wendell was born on January 31, 1928, in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of Leigh and Carrie Weider. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He worked for Thermogas for over 40 years. Wendell loved the outdoors, especially the Wisconsin River. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Wendell was loved by everyone that he met. He was the light in the room, full of humor, and told story after story of yesteryear’s experiences which richly entertained everyone. Wendell loved his family and friends but his not-so-secret love affair was with the beautiful Wisconsin River. If Wendell wasn’t working or sleeping, one would find him on his river. Most summer weekends, Wendell would load friends and neighbors on his 27’ pontoon boat and take a lazy trip up the river, sharing his wit and love of the river with the people he loved. God broke the mold when he made Wendell; he will be extremely missed by all!
He is survived by his children, Steven L. (Cathi) Weider of Portage, Mark Weider of Washington state, and David Weider of Portage; siblings, Gary “Mouse” Weider of Florida, Sandy Hanson of Rockford, Larry (Jane) Weider of Georgia, Penny Weider of Madison; sister-in-law, Barb Weider of Kenosha; brother-in-law, Bud Hill of Janesville; granddaughter, Leigha Weider; step-grandson, Brandon Spearman; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kirk “Rocky” Weider; brothers, Tom (Phyllis) Weider, Leigh (Ginny) Weider; sisters, Kay Hill, Nan (“Squeak”) Krueger; sister-in-law, Joan Weider; and brother-in-law, Dave Hanson.
