Darwin W. Collins, 90, of Sheffield, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Sheffield Care Center in Sheffield, Iowa. He was born in Galt, Iowa to Clarence and Grace (State) Collins on February 19, 1928.

Darwin grew up as part of a large family on various tenant farms near Aredale, Iowa and remained a farm boy at heart. He graduated from Hansell High School in Hansell, Iowa in 1945 and served his country in the United States Army during the Allied Occupation of Japan at the end of World War II. Darwin married pretty neighbor girl, Jeanette Ruth Geer, on May 1, 1948 in Aredale, Iowa. He and Jeanette owned and operated a trucking and quarry business for many years. Darwin attended the West Fork United Methodist Church with Jeanette. He was a long-time member of Alcoholics Anonymous, helping others achieve the sobriety he enjoyed for more than forty-seven years. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, trading cars, raising livestock, and coffee time with friends and family.

Darwin is survived by his wife Jeanette Collins of Sheffield, daughters Patti (Gene) Persons of Ankeny, Candy (Dave) Culp of Mahomet, Illinois, son Tim (Susan) Collins of Sheffield, sister Bonnie Krienke of Durand, Illinois, eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, son Mike, brothers Cleon, Alvin, and Lee Roy Collins and sisters Margaret Merrick, Juanita Johnson, Hester Warren, and Ruby Daniels.

Services will be held at a later date.
