Her mother, Elizabeth Moore Carrick White, passed away on March 25, 1831 at Natural Bridge Tavern in Natural Bridge, Rockbridge County, Virginia about 320 miles distant from Knoxville, at the age of 48 of consumption. At the time of her mother's death, Isabella was attending Knoxville Female Academy with her niece, Nancy Newton Scott who was close in age. Her father, Senator Hugh Lawson White, passed away on April 10, 1840, in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of 66.
Isabella Lawson White married William Baxter French, a Knoxville lawyer, in Davidson County, Tennessee, on February 2, 1843, when she was 22 years old. Her son, Hugh Lawson White French, was born on October 28, 1844, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her son, Allen May French, was born on February 4, 1847, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her son, William Baxter French, Jr., was born on December 31, 1848, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Isabella L was living with her husband , her three sons and her niece Nancy Newton Scott, who like Isabella, had lost both parents, in Subdivision 15, Knox, Tennessee, in 1850. Her husband was not in the 1870 census with her and 2 of her sons, so he must have died between 1850 and 1870. There was an epidemic of asiatic cholera that took many residents of Knoxville in 1854.
