Obituary from POST REGISTER (IDAHO FALLS, ID) - 28 JUNE 1997:
SALT LAKE CITY - Adrian Hampton Cox, 79, of Salt Lake City, a former eastern Idaho resident, died June 25, 1997, in Salt Lake City of natural causes.
He was born January 20, 1918, at Jameston, Idaho, to Nelson Levi and Ida Nell Hampton Cox. He attended Jameston Elementary School, graduated from Shelley High School, and attended the Utah Technical College.
On January 20, 1939, he married Emma Nell Priest in Jameston. They had also lived in Portland, Oregon, for 10 years; Redding, California, for 12 years; Fairbanks, Alaska, for six years; and had been residents of Salt Lake City for the last 21 years. He worked as a rancher, master mechanic in construction equipment, and later as an equipment superintendent.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as bishop for seven years and another 20 years in the bishopric. For the past seven years he was a temple worker in the Salt Lake City Temple.
He loved to write poetry and songs, to invent items and had two patents. He played the guitar, harmonica, trumpet, piano and organ.
Survivors include his wife, Emma of Salt Lake City; four sons, Anthony A. Cox of Page, Arizona, Gary L. Cox of Ogden, Utah, David N. Cox of Salt Lake City, and Jeffrey R. Cox of Portland, Oregon; three brothers, Vern Cox of Mattowa, Washington, Ellie Cox of Darby, Montana, and Dan Cox of Prosser, Washington; two sisters, Beatrice Carlson and Blanche Poole, both of Shelley; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery.
