He was born on October 26, 1942 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Nathan and Fern Almquist. Some people knew him as Gene but at work, if you asked for Gene, they might not know who you were looking for but if you asked for “Beans”, they all knew whom you meant. He was a proud member of Teamster Local 690. He was a local truck driver for Wallace Colville Motor Freight and Silver Eagle Motor Freight for 37 years. Gene enjoyed fishing and made fly fishing tackle. He had a hobby of going to garage sales and collecting more fishing equipment and golf clubs. Gene was also a lifetime member of the Spokane Gun Club. Trap shooting was one of his favorite sports. Sharon & Gene spent their retirement years in Casa Grande, Arizona and he was a member of their Trap Club. Gene and 5 friends were found there on a weekly basis. His son Chad precedes Gene in death. He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 55 years; brother Roger (Karen) Almquist of Longview and their children Marc (Shannon) Almquist of Longview and Nick (Tonya) Almquist of Monroe; sister Carla (Wayne) Barnes of Otis Orchards and their children Michelle (Marc) Huguenin of East Wenatchee, Alan Barnes of Otis Orchards and Lisa (Wayne) Barnes of Chattaroy; son Eric (Kelly) Almquist of Moses Lake; granddaughters Ashley (Matt) Stucky of Moses Lake, Brooke (Tim) Myers also of Moses Lake and Keirsten Almquist of Walla Walla; grandson Kyle Almquist of Walla Walla; great-granddaughter Angie Stucky of Moses Lake; cousins Gary (Mel) Hoffman of Anchorage, Scott (Susan) Hoffman of Moses Lake and Pam Hoffman of Moses Lake; and many friends in the Spokane area as well as in Casa Grande, Arizona.
