Andrew Shetterly died at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Foland, eight miles south of the city, on the Perkinsville Pike. Shetterly was 88 years (77) of age and was one of the pioneers of Jackson Township.
Mr. Shetterly had been in feeble health all summer, and combined with his great age made his chance of recovery very slight. His death was caused by dropsy. Mr. Shetterly had been making his home with his daughter since the death of his wife seven years ago.
Andrew Shetterly was born in Clermont County, Ohio in 1882 (1828) and came to Jackson Township in 1830 (1835) with his parents. At that time Madison County was only a vast wilderness and there was not a road laid out in Jackson Township. Mr. Shetterly cleared his own farm and saw his neighborhood grow from one vast wilderness, into one of the first farming communities in the state.
Mr. Shetterly was the father of a large family, but most of his children are dead. Those who survive him are; Mrs. John Foland, William Shetterly, of Frankton; Noah Shetterly, of Perkinsville, and David Shetterly who lives in Park Place in Anderson.
The funeral will be held at the M. E. church at Perkinsville tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock and interment will be in the Perkinsville cemetery.
