Dena Entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 11, 2007, Constance Dena Manos Finnegan, the widow of George Thomas Finnegan, Sr. of Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Dena M. Finnegan are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM Monday, May 14, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM with the Rosary beginning at 8:00 PM. at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home 1620 Savannah Hwy. Dena was born in Charleston on July 4, 1916, a daughter of James George Manos and Eva Ahrovetis Manos. She was employed at the Charleston County Register of Mesne Conveyance office for 24 years, retiring in 1980. After retiring, Dena began her true passion, community service. She was a volunteer at Roper, St. Francis and the Medical University of South Carolina Hospitals as well as the American Red Cross, Camp Happy Days and Special Times, Voter Registration, the Carter - May Home and the Friends of the Library. Her inspiring 14,000 hours of volunteer work over 27 years led to several honors such as the Jefferson Award for Community Service, the Presidential Award for Community Leadership and Volunteering, awarded by President Bush, the Exchange Club's Outstanding Senior Citizen Award, the Helping Hands Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award at M.U.S.C. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies of Charity of Sacred Heart Church. She was a loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dena will be deeply missed by her friends and family. Through her unboundless spirit and affection, she touched the lives of many during her life. Dena is survived by a daughter, Constance F. Kanapaux; a son, Dr. G. Thomas Finnegan, Jr. and his wife Rose Marie; six grandchildren, Thomas Finnegan III, Stephanie Finnegan Shackelford, Frank Kanapaux V, Renee Kanapaux Murphy, Michel Kanapaux, Tammy Kanapaux Erwin; nine great-grandchildren; a special niece, Carolyn Torlay as well as several other nieces and nephews. The family has suggested memorial donation to Sacred Heart Church, 888 King St. Charleston, SC 29403, Roper St. Francis Hospitals, MUSC 169 Ashley Ave. Charleston 29425 or the American Red Cross Blood Donation Program.
