Martha Wright, eldest dau. of Capt. Timothy Wright and Sarah Walker, b. of record July 5, 1729 in Wethersfield, Conn. She d. of record at Goshen, Litchfield County, Conn. on July 17, 1823, "age" 83. Although no gravestone is known, she is assumed to be interred near her husband in an unmarked grave. The Goshen Congregational Church records reflect she, as the widow of Justus Hale, was admitted to church membership in Nov. 1807 and the same church also recorded her death on July 17, 1823. Her death was also reported in multiple Hartford or other Conn. newspapers.

On Feb. 28, 1749/50 at the Wethersfield Congregational Church, Martha m. Justus Hale, s. of Nathaniel Hale and Abigail Francis, b. of record in Wethersfield June 29, 1725. He d. intestate June 13, 1765 in Goshen, Litchfield County, Conn., Æ 40 (g.s.) They had six known children: Adino, Maj. Timothy, Sarah, Justus, Ebenezer and Prudence.

Considerable detail regarding the family of Justus Hale and wife Martha Wright is in Hale, House and Related Families (p. 80-82). However, this 1952 work's eminent co-author, Donald Lines Jacobus, errors in calling Martha the dau. of Nathaniel Wright and Ann Deming, b. of record at Wethersfield Feb. 8, 1725/6. The recorded 1773 will of Nathaniel Wright of Wethersfield calls his dau. Martha the wife of Noah Butler (of West Hartford, Conn., where she died as Noah's widow in 1810).

Proof that Justus Hale's wife Martha was the dau. of Timothy Wright and Sarah Walker is included in the recorded 1763 will of her father Timothy ("I give to my well beloved daughters Martha Hale, Prudence Hamner and Sarah Wright..."), the late 1766 distribution of her father's estate ("To Martha Wright alias Hale..."), and in the late 1766 intestate probate of her mother Sarah, who died in Wethersfield in May 1764. In the latter estate record daughter Martha gave a recorded receipt to the then administrator of her mother's estate:

• Rec'd Wethersfield 9th day of Decr. 1766 of Sarah Wright [i.e., Sarah nee Boardman, widow of Crafts Wright] the administratrix on the estate of Crafts Wright, dec'd [Martha's brother, who had been administrator of the estate of Crafts and Martha's mother Sarah], Five pounds Sixteen shillings it being in full of my part of [the estate of] my Mother Mrs. Sarah Wright Dec'd... [Hartford PR, 20:82, court side.]
