Marie Walker Krebs

NORTH LOGAN, Utah - In loving memory of Matta Marie Walker Krebs, 70, who passed away at Logan Regional Hospital on May 25, 1999, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

She was born on July 20, 1928, in Mendon, Utah, the daughter of Jesse William and Ada Plowman Walker. She married Vernal Richard Krebs on Sept. 3, 1947, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Vern and Marie have eight children, Lanny (Sandy) Krebs, Springville, Utah, Kathie (Don) Holyoak, Moab, Utah, Steve (Pat) Krebs, Mendon, Utah, Nolan (Teresa) Krebs, North Logan, Utah, Dallin Krebs, Mapleton, Utah, Corey (Janae) Krebs, Mapleton, Utah, Shelley (Courtney) Balls, Hyde Park, Utah, Jody (Liz) Krebs, Lewiston, Utah; 36 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Marie graduated from South Cache High School, where she was active in student government. She loved the little community of Mendon and was chosen Mendon May Queen in 1942. After graduating from South Cache, she moved to Salt Lake City and was employed with the telephone company.

The following year, she moved back home to Mendon to attend college. While she was going to college, she met Vern at a dance in Newton, and they began dating. After they were married, they made their home in North Logan.

Marie was always active in the LDS Church. She served in the Primary, Young Women's and the Relief Society, where she served as president for nearly three years. She also served as her bishop's secretary for many years, did name-extraction work for the stake and she and Vern were ward and stake missionaries.

Vern and Marie were very seldom seen apart, sharing family experiences, camping, fishing, horseback riding and working on the farm. She loved to paint. She has painted many pictures that hang on the walls in her home and the homes of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered and cherished as a loving and devoted mother and wife. She was honored and loved by everyone who met her and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; J.R. Walker and Fay Walker; and two grandsons, Clint Holyoak and Jesse Krebs.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999, in the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East, North Logan, with her son, Bishop Nolan J. Krebs of the North Logan 5th Ward conducting.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Cranney Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 North, and at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday morning. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery.
