Grace V. Baliva, 102, of Springfield, passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital. Grace was born August 25, 1916 in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Zopito and Agata Cimarelli Palma. She married Mario Frank Baliva on June 3, 1939 in Rochester, NY. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1991.
Grace retired from Horace Mann after 15 years of employment. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and the Senior Living Exercise Program at Laurel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, exercise classes, reading, puzzles, shopping, making pizzellas, cooking, and spending time with her family.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; five sisters; and granddaughter, Sarah Mendenhall.
She is survived by three daughters, Marion (Bill) Clarke of Cape Coral, FL, Janet (Bob) Johnson of Park City, UT, and Susan (Gary) Mendenhall of Lone Tree, CO; son, Dominic (Julie) Baliva of Chatham; eight grandchildren, Bill Clarke Jr., Kevin (Karen) Clarke, Gregory (Dara) Clarke, Jeffrey (Melissa) Johnson, Jenefer Johnson, Nathan Baliva, Zachary (Naomi) Baliva, and Melissa (Ryan) Gildersleeve; ten great-grandchildren, Jonathan (Amanda) Clarke, Mindy (Stephane) Clarke, Mario Clarke, Maria Clarke, Ashlyn Johnson, Mason Johnson, Giovanna Johnson, Anthony Baliva, Sloane Gildersleeve, and Charlie Gildersleeve; and great-great-grandchild, Macy Clarke.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
