Margaret Hester Miller Slagle Bryden died on January 23, 2019.
Born on Feb. 21, 1930 in Locust Grove.
Daughter of the late Ralph Emerson and Elizabeth Beasten Miller.

In 1950, she married Charles Slagle and they raised their two children in the house he built. She worked at the University of Maryland, Kent County Extension office, until she retired in the late 80’s. Mrs. Bryden married Carter Bryden in 1976, and the two made their home in Chestertown. He predeceased her in 2013.

Mrs. Bryden was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and she enjoyed boating and traveling. In the privacy of her living room, she enjoyed playing the piano. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren – she adored them and they adored her! Alzheimer’s stole from her the joy of being a great grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Chance, of Chestertown; a son, Steven Slagle, of Rock Hall; two sisters: Rebecca Startt, of Chestertown; Edna Brooks, of West Virginia; three grandchildren: Richard Chance, of Florida, Melanie Chance Ferreira, Charles William Slagle; and three great grandchildren: Kinsley, Genevieve, and Connor Ferreira, all of Chestertown. She was predeceased by three brothers: Roger, Harold and Irvin Miller.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 12 Noon at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD. Interment will be in St. Paul’s cemetery, following the service.
