GUILDERLAND Marene S. MacDonald, 93 of Guilderland, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at her residence. Born on November 24, 1925, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Wiltsie and Jesse Irene (Martin) Schermerhorn. Marene was a lifelong resident of the Albany area and graduated from St. Agnes School and the Albany College of Pharmacy. She worked as a medical technologist for Bender Lab until her retirement. In addition to her job, she would often help her husband, the late Seward MacDonald, with his dental practice. She enjoyed collecting Chinese porcelain, traveling, playing tennis, Bridge and Mahjongg. Marene was known for her delicious cooking and enjoyed hosting family get togethers. She was an avid gardener and won multiple blue ribbons for her flower pieces she created for the Albany Institute of History & Art's Flower Show. Marene was a member of the Albany Country Club, Bridge Club and the Loudonville Gardening Club. Marene was the matriarch of her family and will be remembered as being a patient and thoughtful person who was supportive, nurturing, forgiving and always put her family first. Though the memories that she cherished most were the ones she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who would refer to her as "Manya." In addition to her parents and her husband, Marene was predeceased by her grandson, Christopher William McCabe; and her granddaughter, "Holly" McCabe. Survivors include her loving children, William MacDonald and Lynda (Brian) McCabe, both of Guilderland and John (Cheri) MacDonald of Boston; grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) McCabe of Albany, Tyson (Lauren) McCabe of Croton-on-Hudson, Bradley (Erin) MacDonald of San Francisco, Ryan MacDonald of New Orleans, and Taylor MacDonald of Bloomington, Ind.; and great-grandchildren, Reagan Eva McCabe and Logan Robert McCabe, both of Albany and Sadie Maeve MacDonald of San Francisco.
