Donald Joe Ashe, 77, of Cullowhee went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 4, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Horace G. and Etta Ammons Ashe. He was a very dedicated deacon of Tilley Creek Baptist Church and a Navy Veteran. Donald retired after a 37-plus year career as a truck driver. He also enjoyed carpentry.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of over 55 years, Geralene “Jeri” Webb Ashe. A daughter, Pam Buchanan and her husband, Steve and a very special grandson, Tyler Buchanan (who was his pride and joy) all of Cullowhee. He is also survived by a sister, Cora Smith of Hampton, Virginia; several brothers and sister-in-laws; special nieces and nephews along with his nephew who was his caregiver, Darren Webb, without his attention and persistence, Donald would not have been able to fulfill his final wishes of being home to live out his last days. In addition to his parents, Donald was also predeceased in death by an infant brother, an infant sister and a sister, Dorothy Penninger of Sylva.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm with his brother-in-law, Reverend Steve Webb, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harris Hospice, 81 Medical Park Loop, Suite 204, Sylva, NC 28779, (828) 631-1702.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Harris Palliative Care and Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
