Helen Abel Richman passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Logan on January 11, 2018. She left behind a legacy of love and humility. Helen left a deep and lasting impression with everyone that was blessed to know her.Helen was born to Dewey and Ella Abel in Lewiston, UT on December 24, 1929. She was their oldest daughter and the third of eight siblings. Helen graduated from North Cache High School in the spring of 1948. She married her sweetheart Boyd Leroy Richman in the Logan LDS Temple the following winter, on December 14th, 1948. The newlyweds made their first home in Cornish, UT. Boyd and Helen spent the next part of their marriage farming throughout Idaho, taking up residency in Jerome, Hazelton, and Eden before returning to Cornish. Boyd and Helen eventually settled in Smithfield. They bought a house on a quiet street where they would later retire.Helen’s greatest pride and accomplishment were her four children: Beverly (Danny Powers), Larry (Erika), Robert (Shelly) and Lisa (Mangum). Helen also played a motherly role in all 11 of her grandchildren’s lives. Helen had five great-grandkids. She led and taught with love and selfless service. Helen’s hardworking attitude and devotion to charity set an example for her family.

Helen’s ability to serve others led her to work at Summit Elementary. She prepared and served hot lunch at Summit for 12 years before retiring in 1993. Helen also did countless jobs on the farm – milking cows, irrigating, and driving tractors. Even in retirement Helen was busy, caring for her grandkids and her garden with meticulous care.Helen was preceded in death by her parents and four of her siblings, as well as her daughter Beverly. Lamar, Blaine, Dean and Donald all greeted Helen lovingly as she returned home to her family beyond the veil. Helen is survived by Boyd and her siblings Janet (Darryl Cosgrove), Joyce (Reed Carpenter) and Dennis. She will be missed deeply by her loved ones.Funeral services will take place Wednesday, January 17 at the LDS Meetinghouse at 175 S. 100 W. in Smithfield, UT. The viewing will take place from 9:30-10:30 AM with the funeral service beginning at 11 AM. Helen will be buried in her family plot in the Lewiston cemetery immediately afterwards. The services will commence at the church with lunch.
