The eleventh child of Colonel James and Mercy Mead, William Mead was born September 12, 1770 and was the first white child born in Rutland Co., Vermont. He married (1) Rachel Smith about 1796 and (2) Olive (Loveland), widow of Aaron Thrall, on October 24, 1813 at the Congregational Church (East Parish), Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont by Rev. Ball.
