Carl was born Carl Edvard Haagensen; he changed the spelling of his name after immigrating to America. He first made his home in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he married Annette Anderson, also from Norway. They had five children, Adolph Edward, Frederick Waldemar, Carl Leonard, Anna Sophia, and Melvin Arthur.

Carl E. Hogenson Expires Yesterday
Native of Norway, Resident of City for 15 Years, Victim of La Grippe.
Carl Edwin Hogenson for 15 years past a resident of Pine Bluff, died about 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, at his home, 1700 West Thirteenth avenue. Mr. Hogenson has been suffering the past fortnight with a severe attack of la grippe. He was up and around the house yesterday. About 3:30 o'clock, he was seized with a coughing spell, and sank into a chair, his heart collapsing under the strain, and death ensuing in a few minutes. Mr. Hogenson, a native of Norway, came to the United States and settled in Wisconsin, moving to Pine Bluff about fifteen years ago, and making his home here since that time. He was very well known and highly esteemed, and the news of his death was received with regret and sorrow by his friends. Mr. Hogenson was about 55 years of age, and is survived by his widow, one daughter, Miss Sophie Hogenson, four sons, Adolph Hogenson, Fred Hogenson, Carl Hogenson and Arthur Hogenson, all of Pine Bluff. The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the family home, with services by Rev. C. C. Cline, pastor of the First Christian church, of which deceased was a member. Interment will be in Bellwood cemetery, and the following friends will serve as pallbearers: G. E. Peterson, C. Y. Watts, H. Jackman, J. W. Graves, M. Ward, and C. W. Howard.
