A bad wreck occurred on the Montana Central between Elk Park and Bernice on the 26th. Coming down the steep grade between these points, the crew lost control of freight No. 16. An empty flat car, third from the tender, jumped the track, six cars following it over the bank into the ditch. Lem Browning, one of the brakemen, who lived at Butte, was instantly killed. Seventeen head of horses were also killed. Two tramps were buried beneath the mass of wreckage.
