Obituary for Mr. Robert "Bob" A. Bamberg

ATTLEBORO – Robert "Bob" A. Bamberg, 72, of Attleboro passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 4, 2019. He was the loving husband of Susan D. Small of Attleboro.

Born on June 24, 1946 in Woburn, MA he was a son of the late Charles and Ada (Beagley) Bamberg.

Bob grew up in Stoneham and was a 1964 graduate of Stoneham High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving from October 1964 to October 1968 and obtaining the rank of Sergeant, E-4, Medical Corpsman. He then served in the US Air Force Reserve from 1968 -1970. Bob was distinguished for an outstanding job performance at the Loring Air Force Base, 1966-1967.

After his honorable discharge from active duty service in the Air Force, Bob moved his family to Woburn and in 1969, they moved to Attleboro, as Bob started his broadcasting career at the WARA Radio Station. He was a graduate of Northeast Broadcasting School in Boston, Class of 1970.

Bob was also self-employed at the Wordsmith, Co., and the Monsieur Phideaux, International Hot Dogs, Inc. He worked at Attleboro's Old Barn and took ownership in 2004 until 2011. He then was a service representative at Stop & Shop in Attleboro and most recently was employed as a regional representative for Earthborn Pet Food Co.Bob was well known for his weekly Pet Column in the Sun Chronicle for over 20 years.

Bob was very active in the Attleboro community, volunteering and serving as a board member for many community organizations such as the Attleboro Chamber of Commerce, Docent at Capron Park Zoo, New Hope, United Way BOD, Junior Achievement BOD from 1971-1996, Double ACS TV and Radio BOD, and the Attleboro Election Commission.Bob's "Pet's Aren't People Business" was always a major effort of his outreach, performing seminars for the community, schools and other local clubs.

Bob engaged in many activities such as the Capron Park Zoo, working as a docent to educate the public about animals; researching animal care and health of pets; bowling for 45 years, in the Monday night league; blogging on "Hub Pages"; dining out; serving on Judy Robbins re-election campaigns and remaining active in politics, in general; cheering on the Boston Red Sox; taking videos of his grandchildren's lively activities; supporting veterans' groups and being an active member of the Attleboro community which he loved.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his two sons, Eric Bamberg and his wife Bronwen Krimmel and Christopher Bamberg and his wife Kimberly; his step-son, Nicholas Trofimovics; step-daughter, Jennifer Trofimovics; his siblings, Ruth Michienzi, Charles Bamberg, Evelyn Johnson, Shirley Garside, Catherine Minichiello and Alice Bond and her husband, Mark; his two grandchildren, Jacob and Elianna Bamberg and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was the brother of the late Louis Bamberg and Phyllis LaLiberte and the brother-in-law to the late Rita Bamberg, Alfred LaLiberte, Vincent Michienzi, Carol Bamberg, Richard Johnson, Frederick Garside and Modestino Minichiello.

The family would like to extend their deep and heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported and prayed for Bob during his time of illness, including: Dr. Asma Latif and the wonderful staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital Oncology and the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Chemotherapy Departments; Dr. William Powlis and the wonderful staff at Brigham and Women's Radiation Oncology Department in Mansfield; Beacon Hospice of Fall River – every staff member was so special. These medical teams provided compassionate and skilled care to help Bob, and all of us, maintain a positive attitude during this difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, January 9th from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 10th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Friends of Capron Park Zoo, 201 County Street, Attleboro, MA 02702.
