Born in Hagnau, Germany to Richard and Hortensia (Schuler) Ehrlinspiel, Mary Louise migrated with them to the USA as a young girl. She met and married Frank Willems the son of a local farmer. In 1905 she and Frank moved with most of Frank's siblings and his parents to Canada where they homesteaded a claim 4 miles west of Annaheim, SK. Their stay in the isolation and harsh conditions of Canada made them decide to move back to the US. So after the births of Eleanor and Frank they briefly relocated to Marysville, Kansas and then made nearby Beatrice, Nebraska their home until the early 1930's. Then it was on to California where M. Louise, Frank, and only surviving child Eleanor lived out the remainder of their lives.
