SCHOOL BOY KILLED BY VANDALIA TRAIN
SMALL SON OF MR. AND MRS. JAMES BARNETT STRUCK BY FAST TRAIN.

BLINDED BY SNOWSTORM

Little Fellow is Instantly Killed When Hit By Engine -- Was Walking on Track on Way Home.

Blinded by the heavy snow storm and unable to hear an approaching train because of the way the wind was blowing, little Dock Barnett, the eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barnett, of Reelsville, was run down by west bound train No. 7 on the Vandalia at 3:57 o'clock yesterday evening and was instantly killed.
The little boy, in company with his sister, Ethel, aged 10 and Fannie Akers, aged 14, a neighbor, were going home from school. As was their custom they walked west from the station down the railroad track. The two girls fortunately were walking on the side track and the boy was on the main track. The train was fairly on him before he noticed it and then it was too late. He was struck by the front of the engine and hurled to one side of the track, but his skull was crushed, one leg was broken and one arm was fractured. He was dead when picked up.
The little girls were dazed by the accident, and the parents when notified of the accident, were nearly prostrated. The train arrived in Brazil about an hour late because of the accident.
