UNION CITY, Ind. — Martha R. Hunt, 86, of Union City, Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She was born August 27, 1932, at home in rural Darke County, Ohio, to the late Marshall and Elsie Aukerman.

A graduate of Wayne High School, she was valedictorian of the Class of 1950. She worked for many years in the office at Dealer's Transit, retiring at age 59 when the business closed.

Martha Hunt was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Union City, Ohio, where, from her teenage years, she played the organ and piano. Martha and her sister, Marylin, were special blessings to their parents, as the girls were quite young when the three Aukerman sons were in harm's way during World War II. Their young sisters kept their folks busy during the war years. With loving kindness, Martha cared for her aging parents in her own home.

She was married to Albert Hunt, who preceded her in death in 1981. They had two daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Dickerson, Springfield, Ohio, and Terri (Dick) Robbins, the Philippines and Union City, Indiana.

Family members remember her quiet, steady and organized ways; and, her incredible ability to recall dates, places, and names of the many special people in her long life. They appreciated her ability to adapt to the latest technologies, which she used to Facetime with family members in the Philippines and across the United States. She not only kept in touch with her family members, she kept them in touch with each other.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marylin and Tom Price, and they were devoted friends and helpers. Other survivors include: five grandchildren, Keith (Sarah) Dickerson, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and Kara (Michael) Chia, Cincinnati; Michelle (Marc) Tagle, of the Philippines, and Jonathan (Tori) Robbins and Michael (Katrina) Robbins, all of Henderson, Nevada; and five great-grandchildren, Frankie, Teddy and Stu Dickerson, and Tavi and Mateo Tagle, and sister-in-law, Wanda Aukerman. To dozens of nieces and nephews, and greats, she was their beloved "Aunt Marty."

She was preceded in death by four siblings and their spouses, Lucille (Talbert) Wion, Richard, Darrell (Doris) and Bob (Alberta) Aukerman and special companion, Jim Eby.

Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m., with services to follow on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc., 400 W. Deerfield Rd., Union City, Indiana. Burial will follow in the Union City Brethren Cemetery with Lynn Hampshire officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Brethren, 120 E. Oak St., Union City, Ohio 45390.
