Mrs. J. W. Barker, one of the pioneer women of Manchester, died at the home of her son, Jess Barker in Cedar Rapids, last Thursday, December 18th, 1918. The remains were brought to Manchester last Saturday morning and funeral services were held from the home of Fred T. Giles, formerly the home of Mrs. Barker's sister, Mrs. J. B. Smith, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. C. K. Hudson of Cedar Rapids had charge of the services. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
Mrs. Barker's maiden name was Rosetta Miller, and she was born June 12th, 1849. She is survived by three children, J. D. and A. B. Barker and Mrs. Nettie Miller, all of Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Barker was a good wife and faithful mother, a kind friend and helpful neighbor , and her memory will long be cherished by all who knew her.
