Born in New York in NOV 1847 to John Tully Eaton and Emeline Parks. He was the 3rd of five known children.

He served in the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union, during the Civil War. He enlisted on 23 SEP 1862 in Coxsackie, New York as a musician. Records indicate he was wounded during the war.

He married Mina R Stewart about 1871. He and Mina had five known children: Lillie, Elizabeth, Isabella (Bella), E Warren, and Edward C Eaton.

He and his wife raised their family in the New Baltimore area of New York, where he lived until he died.

New York Tribune obituary of 12 JAN 1905 reads as follows:
EATON-Suddenly, January 5, 1905, at New-Baltimore, NY, Sylvenus Perry Eaton, beloved husband of Mina R Eaton and son of the late John Tully and Emeline Parks Eaton, aged 57 years. Funeral held at this late residence, New-Baltimore, on January 7. Buried at Chestnut Lawn Cemetery. He was a member of the G.A.R.
