MRS. MARY FRANCES SMITH
March 16, 1881 ~ January 7, 1950

GLOVER WOMAN BURNS TO DEATH EARLY SATURDAY

Mrs. Mary Frances Smith, 68, Glover, died at 8 a. m. Saturday in a blaze which completely destroyed her small log house.

Origin of the blaze was not determined. The fire was discovered by the victim's mother, Mrs. Dora Bell Summerhill, who lives nearby. Another neighbor saw the flames about the same time, but they had made such advancement that he could not enter the house.

Mrs. Smith's body was found near the door of the kitchen. The door had been sticking recently, according to reports. It was not known whether death was caused by the burns or by the smoke. The body was almost consumed.

The tragedy was investigated by Assistant County Attorney James Nease and Deputy Wayne Watson.

Born in Cottonplant {Sic}, Mo., March 16, 1881, she had resided in McCurtain county since 1913, moving from DeQueen.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Glover church with Rev. Taft Gibbs, Talihina, officiating.

Arrangements and burial in Glover cemetery were under direction of Wilson funeral home.

She is survived by her mother; three sons, Ben F. Adams, Kerrville, Tex.; Robert E. Adams, Glover, and David W. Adams, Tulare, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Sorrels, Idabel, and Mrs. George McDonald, Glover; one brother, Horace Summerhill, Glover; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Marcrow and Miss Ella Summerhill, both of Glover; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
