Verena C. (Voelker) Bender, 92, of Evansville, joined her sweetie in Heaven on Thursday, January 03, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

Verena was born November 8, 1926 in Evansville to the late Frank and Olivia (Mayer) Voelker. She managed the Armstrong Recreational Center for 16 years and was a member of the Owls, Eagles, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County and the St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. Verena was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was well known for her good cooking and pie making. Her food was enjoyed by many family members and friends.

Surviving Verena are her daughter, Debbie (Greg) Schneider of Haubstadt; three sons, Donald (Chris) Bender of Evansville, Kenneth (Julie) Bender of Rockport and Curtis (Tina) Bender of Evansville; two sisters, Rosalie Lutterbach and Barbara Huff; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Julie, Lauren, Jared, Heather, Holly, Hannah, Steven, Brad and Aaron and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Verena was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, August Bender on December 11, 2018; by sisters, Dolores Elpers and Magdalen Eickhoff; by a brother, Francis Voelker and by a grandson, Heath Bender.

There will be a Mass of Christian held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Church cemetery.
