PATROLMAN SHIELDS DIES AFTER 3 WEEKS' ILLNESS


Patrolman Daniel L. Shields, a member of the Police department for more than 30 years, died Saturday evening at his home, 32 Walter Street, after a brief illness. He was stricken with a heart attack three weeks ago on his way home from the Franklin Street station, where he had been assigned since 1928. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning in St. Monica's Church at 9 o'clock.


Surviving Patrolman Shields are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Shields; one son, Charles D., and three daughters, the Misses Mary, Katherine and Alice M.


Mr. Shields was born In Ireland in 1869 and came to America when a young boy. He joined the police force in 1903 and spent most of his years in the Babcock Street, Louisiana street and Franklin precincts.
