Thelma Bednar, 84 of Monongahela, Victory Hill died Friday, December 21, 2018 in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born December 13, 1934 in New Eagle, she was the daughter of the late Howard Holzaphfel and Josephine (Flagle) Holzaphfel-Schultz. Two weeks after her graduation from Monongahela High School in 1953, she married her late husband George. From her home she operated a beauty salon for many years, then went back to school and received her Degree in Education in 1971 from California University. With the help of her family opened the Petal Basket Floral Shop for over 25 years, in Charleroi. Thelma attended the former Black Diamond Mission and was Presbyterian by Faith. A member of the Victory Hill Auxiliary, she enjoyed knitting hats and scarfs and donating them to cancer patients at local hospitals. Thelma enjoyed the beautiful home her and her husband George built, her creativity was well seen in all parts of her life, but her most valuable gift was what she gave to others. Surviving are a daughter Sherri Taddeo (Tim Marmie) of Monongahela (Victory Hill); four grandchildren Tamara (Shira) Feiglestein of Pittsburgh; Lisa (Matthew) Morris of Finleyville and Lena and Travis Taddeo of Monongahela; three great grandchildren Eli Criswell, Cylvia Feiglestein, and Aiden Morris; two sisters Judy Gagliardi and Loma Young of Monongahela and a son in law, Andrew Gira of Victory Hill. Preceding her in death was her husband George Bednar who died December 1990, a daughter Cindy Gira who died April 22, 2010 and a sister Joyce Necciai. Friends will be received at the Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, from 1-3 and 5-7pm Sunday where a service will be held Monday December 24, 2018 at 10am with Rev. Mark Woomer officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
