Walter has joined his wife, Mary Margaret and they are now at peace. Both were long term residents of Northern Virginia. Mary Margaret was born on a family farm near Haymarket in 1923 to Henry Hamilton Thomas and Rose Mary Shirley. Walter was born at Georgetown Hospital in 1920 to James Edward Haynes and Gladys Cecelia Pickett. Walter and Mary Margaret graduated from Washington and Lee High School (classes of ''38 and ''42) in Arlington, VA. Walter was a member of the Class of ''44 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, but was called to active duty before finishing. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Walter and Mary Margaret were married in 1944. Walter returned from active duty, completed college and eventually took a job with EC Ernst Electrical Contractors. While at EC Ernest, as Senior Estimator, he was involved in projects such as the J Edgar Hoover building, Washington National Cathedral, and the DC Metro System. In 1979, Walter founded a partnership with Jack Martin and continued electrical contracting in the Northern Virginia area. Living in Arlington, Virginia, Walter and Mary Margaret had five children, Richard, Susan, Shirley, Edward and Thomas. They were active parents supporting their children in scouting and various activities at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Virginia. In 1977, Walter and Mary Margaret moved to Oakshade, the family farm in the Haymarket, Virginia area to actively farm thereby continuing a five generation tradition. Mary Margaret was actively involved in Columbia Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. With Walter''s retirement in 1992, they became snowbirds, enjoying the Winter months in their vacation home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida and the late Spring through early Fall back on the Farm in Virginia. They relocated to their Florida home in 2000. Mary Margaret died in July 2004 just weeks short of their 60th wedding anniversary. Walter continued to love the sun and beach until the bus finally stopped on December 28. They are now at peace and enjoying loved ones that passed before.
