Rhoda was born on February 22, 1932 in Middletown, Connecticut, the daughter of David and Pauline Friedman. She spent her childhood in Brooklyn, New York, and married Gerald Abell on New Year's Eve 1955. Rhoda and Jerry moved to Poughkeepsie, New York in 1957, where Jerry became an owner of Capital Bakery and Rhoda devoted her time to raising a family.
Rhoda received her Associates Degree from Dutchess Community College, and was enrolled in a Bachelors Degree program at SUNY New Paltz, until her studies were interrupted by Jerry's death in 1991.
Rhoda lived in Boca Raton, Florida since 1993. She spent the past 25 years in active retirement at Boca West Country Club. She filled her days playing tennis, golf, cards, and Mahjong, and enjoyed lunches and shows with her many friends. She traveled extensively in these years, taking one major adventure nearly every year, sometimes with friends and family, and sometimes with a women's travel group. Her journeys took her throughout Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia, China, Southeast Asia, Tibet, India, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Canada, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Services will be held at the Temple Beth-El Cemetery, 1239 Route 44, Poughkeepsie, New York, on December 31, 2018 at 12:00 noon.
