FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FOR TOM F. NEWTON
Funeral services for Thomas F. Newton were conducted Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 1964 from the First Methodist church in Beaver City, Reverend H, H. Hoffmann officiated at the last rites.
Thomas Forsythe Newton son of Abel and Maria Jane Newton was born at Stockport, Ohio on November 12, 1866 and passsed away at Lincoln, Nebraska May 10,1964 at the age of 97 years, five months and 28 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Winter on January 24, 1906. To this union three daughters and two sons were born.
After teaching several terms of school in Ohio, , Iowa and Nebraska, he was county clerk of Furnas county for one term. He was associated with the Bank of Beaver City for 21 years and represented the Federal Land Bank in Furnas county for 35 years. In 1941, they moved to Omaha where he was associated with the development of the Upland Park Homes Addition until he retired, after which time they moved to Lincoln where he lived until his death.
He was a member of the First Methodist church of Beaver City.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Beaver City for 55 years and received the Jordan Medal in 1959. He was the last charter member of the Beaver City Chapter No. 197 of the Order of Eastern Star and received his 50 year pin in 1955. He was a member of the Beaver City International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 96 and recently received his 70 year jewel.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and was respected by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, two granddaughters, his mother, father, five sisters and six brothers. He is survived by three daughters, Nellie Wentling of Beaver City, Lena Fults of Lincoln and Eilene Neese of Santa Puala, California, one son, James Newton of Lincoln, three sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Newton of Oxford and a host of friends.
