OBITUARY Mrs. Gertrude Newton
Gertrude G. Arford, only daughter of John and Virginia Arford, was born July 12,1877 at Friendship, Indiana, and departed this life Aug. 29, 1964 at Oxford, Nebraska, at the age of 87 years.
She came with her family to the Precept community when she was a young girl. On April 23,1899 she was united in marriage to Ziba Newton and most of their life was spent in the Hollinger community. They moved to Oxford in 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1961.
Her early interest was in the E.U.B. Church of her home community and she was a charter member of the Church at Bethel. When her home was in Hollinger community she was also a charter member of Hollinger E.U.B. Church and she retained her membership through the years. She was very interested in all church and civic activities and contributed unselfishly to the betterment of her community.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Wilke, Lewis, Harry, Earl and Cecil.
She is survived by her five children, Dr. Raymond Newton, Laguna Beach, California, Dr, Lyle Newton, St. Peterburg, Flordia, Mrs. Lela Du Pre, Paris, France, Mrs. Leta Jackson, Oceanside, California and Walter Newton of San Francisco, California. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great grand-daughter, one brother, Floyd Arford of Stamford, other relatives and many friends.
Memorial Services were conducted at Bethel E.U.B. Church, Sept. 1, 1964, with Rev. C.L, Sheffield officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lloyd Ehrke and Mrs. Stanton Brown with Mrs. Matt Beien at the piano. Bearers were Cecil Hall, Lowell Hall, Clinton Schluntz, Herman Keiser, John Baker and Gayle Woodruff, Interment was in the Deaver Cemetery, with Mitchell Funeral Home, Oxford, in charge of arrangements.
