Mrs. Betty J. (McCloskey) Stoops, 86, of Hamilton Avenue, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 in Falling Spring Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
Born November 30, 1932 in Renovo, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilson L. and M.E. (Manning) McCloskey.
Mrs. Stoops received her GED from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1969.
She and her husband, the late Mr. Charles F. “Wes” Stoops, were married August 12, 1950. Mr. Stoops passed away October 1, 2002.
Mrs. Stoops was employed by Hearthstone Retirement Home for 12 years and later Quincy United Methodist Home for 11 years. She retired in 1998.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695 Ladies Auxiliary, Joe Stickell American Legon Post #15 Ladies Auxiliary, Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, Waynesboro Lioness Club and National AARP.
Mrs. Stoops served as a volunteer at Waynesboro Hospital Gift Shop and Waynesboro Day Care Thrift Store.
She enjoyed quilting.
Mrs. Stoops is survived by four children, Rickie L. Stoops of Waynesboro, Wanda K. Michalsky of Schuylkill Haven, PA, Carla M. Crouse and Mary M. Null, both of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Dale McCloskey of Texas; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro with Pastor Ruth Ward officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.
