It appears that William John changed his surname. It was 'Dunkin', and indeed his son, William John served as Private DUNKIN, WILLIAM J., Service Number 35190, 1st Battalion, The King's (Liverpool Regiment), killed in action 13 March 1917, Aged 27 ("Son of William John and Sarah Dunkin, of 12, St. George's Walk, Douglas, Isle of Man."), commemorated at THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France: Pier and Face 1 D 8 B and 8 C.
However, his second son, FRANK, served Trimmer DUNCAN, ROBERT FRANCIS ARCHER, on board H.M.S "Snaefell", Mercantile Marine Reserve, died as a result of wounds 6 June 1918, Aged 24 ("Son of the late William and Sarah Duncan. Born at Douglas, Isle of Man."), buried at MALTA (CAPUCCINI) NAVAL CEMETERY
