He was a former Truck Driver from Tramco Mining Company. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of the Matewan Church of God. Hand his wife Mary had a gospel group for many years called the Sounds of Pentecost.
He was the husband for 32 years to his wife Mary Elizabeth Bevins.
