“James L. Knowles, age 61, a life-long resident of Green Hill and that vicinity, died Sunday morning at four o’clock at the home of a sister, Mrs. Charles Zeigler, in Lafayette, with whom he had made his home since retiring from the farm. Death was caused by uremic poisoning.

Mr. Knowles was born in Green Hill. Besides eleven children, he is survived by one brother, Wm. of Taylor Station, two sisters, Mrs. John Crawford, of near Lafayette, and Mrs. Zeigler, at whose home he died.

Funeral services were held at one o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Rogers and Smith Funeral home in Lafayette, after which additional services were held at two o’clock at the Green Hill church. Interment was made in Armstrong cemetery.” – March 19, 1936
