Aileen Langston

Aileen Langston passed away shortly after noon on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 after suffering an apparent heart attack on December 29th while participating in physical therapy at South Place Nursing Center in Athens where she resided.

"Grami" or "Grandma I," as she was affectionately called by her family, was ninety-four (94) at the time of her death and had made her home in Athens since 1995.

She was born in Syracuse, Nebraska and was educated at Doane College and the University of Nebraska, receiving her Bachelor's Degree and teaching in the public schools of Nebraska and Texas for many years.

Mrs. Langston and her husband of fifty-two (52) years, John, who predeceased her in 1991, moved from Omaha, Nebraska to Houston, Texas in 1949 where she taught Business Courses at San Jacinto High School and her husband served as the Regional Manager for business books for McGraw-Hill Book Company with his sales staff covering Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Among her students at San Jacinto were Athens resident Dan Middleton, the Pastor of Cove Springs Methodist Church near Jacksonville, of whom she was very proud.

Mrs. Langston loved the Lord and was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Tyler, but attended the First Baptist Church in Athens for many years until her declining health made personal attendance impossible. She loved to listen to First Baptist Church of Athens Pastor Kyle Henderson and First Baptist Church of Tyler Pastor Michael Massar on her television and she took special pleasure in the Lawrence Welk re-runs on PBS which she supported by donations.

She is survived by one daughter; one son; one son-in-law; twelve grandchildren;

She is also survived by twelve (12) great grandchildren; a nephew; and a host of friends.

In addition to her husband John Langston, she was predeceased by a son Dean Langston in 1973, a daughter Sharon Anderson in 2004, a grandson Fred Head, Jr. in 1986 and a sister Jody Cowger in 1996.

A memorial service in Aileen Langston's Honor led by the Reverend Dan Middleton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Athens.
