A graduate of Columbia University and General Theological Seminary, Dr. Cotter was an assistant at the Church of the Epiphany in New York, served as a missionary in China for 13 years, and returned to this country to become dean of St. John's Cathedral in Providence, R. I.
He was named rector of the Sharon church in 1935, serving until 1957.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ida Taylor Cotter; two daughters, Mrs. Jayne Meadows Allen, wife of Steve Allen, the entertainer, and Mrs. Audrey Meadows Six, wife of Robert Six, president of Continental Airlines; two sons, Frank Taylor and George Edward, and a sister, Mrs. Bartlett Chappell.
