He served on the USS Mississippi BB-41.

Vernon George Sterling, age 83 of Kernersville, NC, died Sunday, May 20, 2007.

A native of Canastota, NY, he was the son of the late Ethel Archer and Leslie George Sterling. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran having served on numerous ships during his service, including the USS Mississippi. He was a graduate of Rider University and was retired County Purchasing Agent for Burlington, NJ.

He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Kernersville. He was a member of several Purchasing Agents associations in Burlington. He was also a member for many years of the Burnt Cork Society of Burlington, NJ. For many years he was a member, and elder, of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, NJ.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis M. Sterling of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Isenberg and Peter of Louisville, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Vance G. Sterling and Gayle of Maryville, TN and son, Bruce F. Sterling of Cleveland, TN and daughter, Lynda Borgstrom and her husband David of Roebling, NJ; sons David C. Mudge and his wife Patricia of Burlington, NJ, and Brian S. Mudge and his wife Cynthia of Oak Hill, VA; granddaughter Jennifer; six additional grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Service Celebrating his life will be held at 6:00 PM, Friday, May 25, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Clark Vincent officiating. A Memorial Service will also be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday May 29, 2007 at the Burlington First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Deborah Brincivalli officiating local services in Burlington. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson, NJ.
