Joseph Antoney was a well known and highly respected resident of the Mackay district for about 52 years and a colonist of Queensland for about 59 years when he passed away at the Lister Private Hospital, Mackay. He was a director of the North Eton Sugar Mill for many years and Chairman of directors for 15 years. His funeral took place on the afternoon of his passing and was largely attended by many citizens of the district.

Cause of death was Sprue, Cachexia and exhaustion - Information obtained from his death certificate.
