James Neel Gaines of Miami, OK passed from this life Tuesday, Dec ember 18, 2018 at Integris Miami Hospital in Miami, OK. He was 81.
Jim was born June 27, 1937 in Miami, OK to Elmer and Virginia (Neel) Gaines. He had lived in the Miami area all his life. He graduated from Miami High School Class of 1955 and attended Oklahoma State University for 2 years and 1 year at Baylor University.
Jim owned and operated Gaines and Neal Construction Company in Miami, OK. He was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Miami, OK and attended God's Powerhouse in Ketchum, OK.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah Ramsey, his parents, a brother Tom Gaines and a sister Martha Dowell.
Jim married DeMaris Lou Wilbur on November 30, 1957 in Miami, OK and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include 2 daughters, Chris Herrera of Miami, OK and Liz Gore and husband Sheldon of Glenpool, OK, 7 grandchildren, DeMaris Rector and husband Darrell, Dallas Herrera, Asa Herrera and wife Trisha, Rachel Tavis and husband Justin, James Gray, Naomi Gray and Logan Gore and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Rev. John Bechtold will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton, OK. Logan Core, James Gray, Justin Tavis and Dallas Herrera will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel.
