At the age of 19 years Samuel moved to Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marie Ellen Mathias Aug 14, 1856. To this union were born nine children, Eva Zimmers, Randall, Kans. Alice Snider, Randall, Kans. Jane Thomas, Courtland, Kans., Eliza Chapman, Red Willis, Canada, Thom King of Casade, Nebr., Nellie Clark, Logan, Kans., John King, Harlan, Kans., Daisy Crawford, Harlan, Kans., Della King, who died in infancy.
He homesteaded in Republic county Kans., in 1872 and settled with his family March 11, 1873.
He went through the pioneer days with unwavering courage. In 1892 his wife proceeded him to the life beyond.
In the spring of 1895 he moved to Harlan, Kans. He later was married to Ellen McClain. She too having gone to her reward some eight years ago. The remainder of his life was spent among his children making his home principally with his daughter Daisy at whose home he passed away.
